The Creality K2 Combo is a Costco item now. Here is what you actually get for $579.99.
A fully enclosed multicolor 3D printer is sitting on a warehouse shelf between the gaming PCs and the curved monitors. That is genuinely new. It is also not the machine most of the YouTube reviews are about, and the difference matters more than the price does.

We spotted it in the San Diego warehouse this month: Creality K2 Combo, item 2070978, $579.99, with the four-spool filament system perched on top and a little fleet of printed benchies scattered across the display shelf. Two years ago, buying an enclosed CoreXY printer meant a Kickstarter-adjacent website, a customs delay, and a forum thread. Now it comes home in the same cart as the rotisserie chicken.
Dreaming3D repairs printers across San Diego County for a living, and we already know what the next few months look like: a wave of machines bought on impulse in a warehouse aisle, half of them printing beautifully, the other half sitting in a garage with a clogged nozzle and an owner who has watched eleven YouTube videos that were all about a different printer.
So this is the honest version. What is in the box, what the spec sheet actually says, which trade-offs you are accepting, and what we can do about it when something goes sideways.
What is in the Costco box
Costco lists the bundle as the K2 Combo with a filament and nozzle package. According to the listing and Creality’s own product materials, that works out to:
- The Creality K2 printer — the base model of the K2 series, fully enclosed, pre-assembled.
- One CFS unit (Creality Filament System) — the four-bay box that sits on top and handles automatic colour changes.
- Four Unicorn quick-swap nozzles — 0.2, 0.4, 0.6 and 0.8 mm. On the K2 these are integrated nozzle-and-heatbreak assemblies, not bare brass tips.
- Four 1 kg spools of Hyper PLA with RFID tags — red, white, blue and black.
- The usual toolbox, PTFE tube, spool holder, power cable and quick guide.
That is a real bundle rather than a padded one. Creality sells the Unicorn nozzle kit as a standalone accessory in the $50–60 range depending on region and configuration, and 4 kg of branded RFID filament is not nothing. The pricing on this item has moved around since it first appeared in the channel, so treat $579.99 as a snapshot and not a fixed number.
The thing to get straight before anything else
There are four machines wearing the K2 name: the K2, the K2 Pro, the K2 Plus, and the K2 SE. Costco is stocking the base K2. Most of the review coverage, most of the enthusiast forum threads, and most of the impressive HueForge prints you have seen are about the K2 Plus, which is a substantially different machine at a substantially different price.
Creality publishes a side-by-side comparison, and the gaps are not cosmetic:

None of that makes the base K2 a bad buy. It makes it a different buy. If you walk out of the warehouse expecting the machine from the review you watched last night, you are going to be annoyed at your own printer for failing to be a printer it never was.
What the K2 does well
Take the confusion away and there is a lot to like here at this price.
- It is enclosed. This matters more than beginners expect. An enclosure means steadier chamber air, less draft-induced warping, better noise containment, and a physical barrier between a 250 °C nozzle and a curious kid or dog.
- It arrives essentially built. Creality states the K2 models are pre-assembled apart from fitting the touchscreen, then run their own levelling and fan calibration on first boot. Compared with a decade of Ender-3 build threads, this is a different universe.
- Four-colour printing works out of the box. The bundled CFS gives you four colours immediately, and Creality states the system chains up to four units for sixteen colours if you ever go that far.
- Smart auto levelling probes only the print area rather than sweeping the whole bed, which Creality credits for faster levelling and steadier first layers.
- It is quiet for what it is. Creality attributes this to step-servo motors and balanced fans, and puts silent mode around the noise level of typing on a laptop. In a two-bedroom apartment, that is the difference between a printer you run overnight and a printer you resent.
- Parts are everywhere. Creality’s scale is its genuine advantage. Nozzles, build plates, hotends and belts for K2-series machines are stocked by multiple sellers, which is a real consideration we weigh whenever anyone asks us whether a printer will age well.
Five trade-offs worth knowing before you load it in the cart
1. The 600 mm/s number is a ceiling, not a cruising speed
Retail signage leads with 600 mm/s. Creality’s own footnote on the same specification page states that the typical printing speed for all K2 models is 300 mm/s, and recommends its Hyper series filaments for high-speed work. That is not a scandal — every manufacturer quotes a peak — but you should buy the 300 number, not the 600 one. Hands-on coverage of the K2 Combo has landed in the same place.
2. No heated chamber means ABS is a fight
Creality lists ABS among the K2’s compatible filaments. Creality also states, in a footnote on that same page, that printing ABS, ASA and PPS requires a chamber temperature of 60 °C — and the base K2 has no active chamber heating at all. Putting those two published facts together: you can run ABS in a K2, the enclosure will trap some passive heat and help, and you should still expect corner lift and layer separation on anything tall or wide. If ABS or ASA is the reason you are buying, the Pro and Plus exist for that reason.
3. Multicolour printing eats filament
Every colour change purges the old material out of a single nozzle before the new one goes down. On a four-colour model with frequent swaps, the purge tower and waste chute can consume a meaningful share of the total filament for the job — sometimes approaching or exceeding the mass of the model itself, depending on geometry and how your slicer is configured. The four included spools will not last as long as four spools of single-colour printing would. This is a property of single-nozzle multicolour systems generally, not a Creality defect, and we cover the same trade-off in our budget multicolour printer roundup.
4. It is bigger than the shelf photo suggests
Creality lists the K2 at 404 × 436 × 545 mm and 18.3 kg — and then the CFS sits on top of that, adding height and depth for the spool bay and the feed tubes. Measure your actual surface before you buy, leave clearance behind it for filament routing, and make sure whatever it sits on does not resonate. A CoreXY machine slamming its toolhead around at high acceleration on a hollow-core desk turns into a subwoofer.
5. It is the previous flagship, and that cuts both ways
Creality is already promoting a K3. Products reach warehouse-club shelves when they are mature and being moved in volume, which is exactly when the firmware has settled, the community troubleshooting threads are deep, and the spare parts are cheap. The flip side is that you are not buying the front of the product line, and future development attention will go elsewhere. For most buyers, mature-and-supported beats brand-new-and-unproven. Just know which one you are getting.
A note on the warranty. Creality handles warranty status through a serial number lookup on its own support site rather than publishing a single global term, and coverage can differ by region and by where you bought the machine. Before you assume anything, run your serial through Creality’s warranty lookup and save the result. That five-minute step is worth more than any blog post’s guess, including ours.
The Costco-specific math
Buying a printer from a warehouse club changes a few variables that have nothing to do with the printer.
- The price is not fixed. This item has appeared at several different prices since it entered the channel, including lower ones during promotional windows. If you are not in a hurry, it is worth watching. It is also worth checking Creality’s own store, which runs its own sales — the same advice we give in our sale-season buying guide.
- Membership affects the real cost. Non-members can generally buy through Costco.com with a surcharge. If you are joining specifically for this, add the membership fee to the printer price before comparing against other retailers.
- The return policy is the genuine advantage — with a caveat. Costco’s satisfaction guarantee has no deadline on most merchandise, while a specific named list of electronics categories carries a firm 90-day window. 3D printers are not on that published list, which suggests the general guarantee applies. We would not bet a purchase on our reading of it: ask the membership desk directly, and either way keep your receipt and give the machine a serious workout in the first 90 days rather than leaving it boxed until Christmas.
- Nobody at the warehouse can help you tune it. This is the honest gap. The return counter can take the printer back. It cannot tell you why your first layer is not sticking, or diagnose a CFS feed error, or tell you which of the four nozzles to use for a miniature. That part is on you, the community, or a shop like ours.
Living with an enclosed printer in San Diego
Our local conditions are specific enough to be worth calling out, because most printer advice online is written for somewhere else.
- Marine layer humidity is the quiet killer. Coastal mornings from Del Mar to Ocean Beach run humid enough to matter, and PLA and PETG both absorb moisture from the air. The CFS is a sealed box with desiccant, which genuinely helps — but only for the spools inside it. Everything else you own needs a dry box or a dryer, and the desiccant needs recharging on a schedule, not when you remember.
- Inland summer garages are the other extreme. Poway, Escondido and Santee garages hit temperatures that soften PLA on the spool and cook the printer’s own electronics. An enclosed machine already runs warm inside. If the garage is the only option, print in the early morning and consider what the ambient temperature is doing to your filament storage.
- Salt air and coastal UV are slow problems. If the printer lives in an open garage within a couple of miles of the water, expect corrosion on exposed steel over a timescale of years, and keep prints made from PLA out of parked cars and direct sun — PLA softens well below the temperature a San Diego dashboard reaches in August.
- Run the power numbers honestly. SDG&E rates are among the highest in the country, and an enclosed printer heating a bed and a hotend for a 14-hour multicolour job is a real load. It is not going to change your life, but if you are planning production runs rather than weekend prints, do the arithmetic on your own rate plan and time-of-use window before you commit.
- Ventilate anyway. The K2 has an air filter, and that is better than nothing. It is not a substitute for a room with airflow, especially if you ever run ABS.
Your first two weeks: the order that prevents most of the calls we get
Almost every early failure we are called out for traces back to skipping one of these, in this order. Resist the urge to load all four colours on day one.

Choose the spot before you open the box
Solid, level surface. Clearance behind for filament tubes. Not a hollow desk, not a wire rack, not the top of a dryer. Measure for the printer plus the CFS above it, and check the door has room to swing.

Run the guided setup and the built-in calibrations, fully
Fit the touchscreen, let the machine run its levelling and fan calibration, and do not skip a step because it seems slow. This is the foundation everything else sits on.

Print the bundled test model in a single colour
One spool, direct feed, no CFS involvement. You are confirming the motion system, the hotend and the bed all work before adding a second system that could also be at fault.

Update the firmware, then print that same model again
Firmware on a machine that has been sitting in a distribution centre is rarely current. Update it early, while you still have a known-good print to compare against. Our firmware update guide covers the general process across brands.

Only now, load the CFS — with two colours, not four
Two colours exposes feed and purge problems at half the filament cost of four. Print something small with a simple colour split. When that works twice in a row, go to four.

Swap a nozzle deliberately, before you need to
Learn the quick-swap procedure on a cold machine with the manual open, not at 11pm mid-project with a clog. Put the other three nozzles somewhere you will find them in a year.

Write down what went wrong, with a photo
First-layer problems, stringing, a CFS error code — photograph it and note the filament, nozzle and settings. Whether you fix it yourself, post it to a forum, or call us, the diagnosis starts with that information and stalls without it.

If you need one multicolour part, or a batch of something, or a resin-detail piece a filament printer cannot resolve, buying a printer is an expensive way to get it. Tutoring, scanning and modelling
One-on-one sessions on slicer settings, supports, orientation and CAD, so the machine you bought becomes a tool you use rather than a thing you own. We also run 3D scanning with a Revopoint MetroY and do reverse engineering when you need a physical part turned into a printable model.
What we do not do. We do not print metal. We do not produce flight hardware, firearm components, load-bearing or safety-critical parts, or any device intended for patient contact. If your project needs any of those, we will say so up front and point you toward a shop that is certified for it — that is a better outcome for everyone than a plastic part in a job it was never qualified for.
So should you buy it?
Buy it if you want an enclosed, quiet, mostly-tuned multicolour printer for a shelf or a home office, you mainly print PLA and PETG, a 260 mm cube is enough room, and you understand you are getting the base model of the family. At $579.99 with a CFS, four nozzles and 4 kg of filament included, that is a reasonable proposition, and the return counter behind you is a real form of insurance.
Skip it if ABS, ASA or carbon-filled engineering filaments are the actual goal, if you need more than a 260 mm cube, or if you are buying because of a review you watched that was really about the K2 Plus.

Common questions
Is the Creality K2 at Costco the same as the K2 Plus I have seen reviewed?
No. Costco is stocking the base K2. Per Creality’s published comparison, the K2 has a 260 mm cubed build volume against the K2 Plus at 350 mm cubed, no active chamber heating, a 300 °C nozzle instead of 350 °C, no nozzle AI camera, no built-in RFID reader, 8 GB of storage instead of 32 GB, and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only. It is a capable printer, but it is a different machine from the one in most of the review coverage.
Can I print ABS on the Costco K2?
Creality lists ABS among the K2’s compatible filaments, and the enclosure does trap passive heat. However, Creality also states that ABS requires a 60 °C chamber, and the base K2 has no active chamber heating. In practice, expect small ABS parts to be workable and larger or taller ones to warp and delaminate. If engineering filaments are your main purpose, the K2 Pro or K2 Plus are built for it and the base K2 is not.
Do I need a Costco membership to buy this printer?
Non-members can generally purchase through Costco.com with a surcharge added, while warehouse purchases require a membership. If you are joining specifically for this printer, include the annual membership fee when you compare the total against other retailers. Costco also runs its own promotional pricing, so the current figure may not be the figure next month.
How much filament does four-colour printing actually waste?
More than most people expect. Single-nozzle multicolour systems purge the previous filament before each colour change, so waste scales with the number of colour swaps rather than the size of the model. A small model with frequent swaps can generate purge waste approaching or exceeding the mass of the part itself. The exact figure depends on your model, your slicer settings and how you have configured the purge tower, so treat the included 4 kg as a starting supply rather than a long-term one.
