The best screen protector for the Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra
A $15 sheet of film against a $130 panel that your warranty won't cover. Here's which one to buy, and which one to skip.
The call always comes in the same way. Somebody kicks off a 14-hour print on a Friday night, goes to bed, and wakes up to a Saturn 4 Ultra with grey resin pooled around the edges of the LCD — already half-cured by the printer's own UV light. A pinhole in the FEP, a loose vat screw, a failed print that welded itself to the film. Take your pick. The result is the same: resin gets under the vat, wicks into the seams around the screen, and the machine that cost you six or seven hundred dollars now needs a new panel and a careful teardown.
Here's the part that stings.
Elegoo's warranty policy gives the LCD screen a three-month limited warranty and then explicitly names the exclusions: resin leakage, scratch-resistant film damage, man-made damage, and collision damage.
The exact failure you're worried about is the one that isn't covered. A replacement panel isn't a rounding error either — Elegoo lists the 16K screen at $129.99, and the 12K panel for the Saturn 4 and 4 Ultra typically lands somewhere between $110 and $160 depending on the retailer.
So a cheap sheet of film is one of the highest-return purchases you'll ever make for a resin printer. Let's talk about which one to buy, which one to skip, and what a screen protector genuinely can't save you from.
First, know which Saturn 4 Ultra you own
This is the single most common ordering mistake we see, so it goes at the top. There are two different Saturn 4 Ultras, and they do not take the same protector.

The active area and bezel geometry differ between them. Mach5ive, who make the best full-coverage protector on the market, state plainly on their own product page that the Saturn 4 / Saturn 4 Ultra version does not fit the Saturn 4 Ultra 16K. Generic listings are sloppier about this — plenty of marketplace multi-packs advertise Saturn 3, 3 Ultra, 4 and 4 Ultra compatibility on a single 10.1" cut and leave you to sort it out.
Before you order anything: pull the vat, wipe the screen, and measure the glass with calipers. Thirty seconds now beats a week of return shipping.
The tempered glass already on your printer isn't a screen protector
Worth clearing up, because it confuses a lot of new owners. Elegoo's replacement LCD listings note that the panel ships with a 9H tempered glass protector for scratch resistance and durability. That's true — but the glass is bonded to the LCD assembly itself. It is part of the screen you'd be replacing.
It protects the polarizer from a dropped build plate or a scraper slip. It does nothing about the perimeter gap where resin runs off the edge of the glass, down the side of the panel, and into the chassis. That gap is where LCDs die.
A proper aftermarket protector does the one thing the factory glass can't: it bridges the seam between the screen and the printer body.
The shortlist
Mach5ive ZeroBubble Screen Saver
Best overall — Saturn 4 and Saturn 4 Ultra 12K only. This is the only widely available option that treats the leak as a sealing problem rather than a covering problem. It covers the bezel as well as the screen and seals the gap between the screen and the printer chassis, so the polarizer is protected too. The kit ships with a microfiber cloth, screen wipes, a squeegee and instructions, and the top layer carries a PET hard-coating to resist a dropped build plate.
Why it wins: resin that gets past a failing FEP has nowhere to go. It sits on top of the film in a shallow pool you wipe up with IPA, instead of running into the seams.
The trade-offs, honestly: it's the priciest option per sheet, it comes as a three-pack rather than a ten-pack, and the bezel-sealing design is less forgiving to install — a bubble or a misalignment on full-coverage film is more annoying to fix than on a plain rectangle. And it doesn't fit the 16K.
Generic 10.1" PET film multi-packs
Best value, and currently the realistic pick for 16K owners. Sellers like Henaiser and HIKUDIY offer five to eight packs of high-transmittance PET film cut for the Saturn 3, 3 Ultra, 4 and 4 Ultra family, usually for the price of a couple of coffees. The good ones advertise light transmittance above 95%, which matters: your 405nm UV has to pass through the film to cure resin, and too much loss sends your exposure times drifting.
If you print a few times a week and you're diligent about cleanup, plain screen-area film catches the overwhelming majority of real-world spills. At that price you replace it on a schedule instead of babying it.
The trade-offs: they cover the screen, not the bezel, so a serious leak still finds the perimeter. Adhesive quality varies a lot between sellers, and a lifted edge is genuinely worse than no film at all — resin wicks underneath and cures where you can't reach it. Inspect the edges every few prints.
Aftermarket tempered glass sheets
Skip these. You'll find 10.1" tempered glass sold as compatible with the Saturn 3, 3 Ultra, 4 and 4 Ultra. On a phone, tempered glass is the premium choice. On an MSLA printer it's the wrong tool.
The problem is thickness. Anything stacked between the LCD and the FEP increases the distance UV travels before it reaches resin, which means more light scatter and softer edges on fine detail — exactly what you bought a 12K or 16K panel to avoid. It also raises your Z-zero and forces a re-level, it's difficult to remove without prying, and if it cracks in place you're scraping glass shards off a $130 panel.

Installing it without ruining it
Nine out of ten complaints that start with "the film didn't work" trace back to installation. The routine:
- Power down and remove the vat entirely. Don't attempt this with a full vat balanced on the bench beside you.
- Clean with 99% IPA and a lint-free cloth, then go over it once more with a dry microfiber. Any residue becomes a permanent bubble.
- Kill the dust. Run this in a bathroom after a hot shower if your garage is dusty — the same trick phone repair shops use. San Diego garages during Santa Ana wind season are about the worst possible environment for it.
- Hinge from one edge. Peel the backing progressively as you lay the film down, squeegeeing from the center outward. Don't drop the whole sheet flat and hope.
- Press the perimeter down hard, especially on bezel-sealing film. The edges are the entire point of the exercise.
- Re-level the build plate. Any added layer changes your zero point.
- Run a short exposure test. Quality film costs you very little transmission, but very little isn't none. If your first layers feel under-cured, add a second or two to bottom exposure and re-test.
What a screen protector will not do
We fix these machines for a living, so let's be straight: film is damage control, not leak prevention. It buys you a wipe-down instead of a teardown. It doesn't stop the leak.
The actual prevention checklist:
- Inspect FEP or ACF tension before every long print. Film that has gone slack or cloudy is a countdown.
- Don't over-torque the vat screws. Uneven clamping is a leading cause of micro-leaks around the film frame. Snug and even beats tight.
- Filter resin between prints. A cured fragment left in the vat is a puncture waiting for the next build plate descent.
- Don't leave failed prints in the vat overnight. Blobs cure hard against the film and tear it when you pry them free.
- Put a tray under the machine. A silicone baking mat or shallow bin catches whatever makes it past everything else.
Print-it-yourself add-ons that pair well
You own a resin printer. Print the accessories.
Vat drip lip
Stops the dribble down the outside of the vat that lands on the bezel in the first place.
Build plate drip tray
Parks the plate over a catch basin while it drains, instead of over your screen.
Under-machine spill tray
A shallow perimeter tray sized to your printer's footprint.
Vat storage lid
Keeps dust and cured fragments out between sessions.
Print these in PETG or ASA rather than PLA. Repeated IPA contact crazes PLA over time, and these parts live in an IPA-heavy zone.
Questions we get asked
Does a screen protector reduce print quality?
With a good one, essentially no. Look for film advertising 95% or better light transmittance at 405nm. You may need to add a second or two to your bottom-layer exposure. Run a validation matrix after installation and you'll know within a single print.
How often should I replace it?
Whenever it clouds, yellows, scratches or lifts at an edge. Practically: every few months for heavy users, or immediately after any spill. That's exactly why multi-packs make sense.
Can I cut a phone screen protector to size?
No. Phone film is optimized for visible light and often carries oleophobic and UV-blocking coatings — the opposite of what you want when the goal is passing 405nm UV through it.
Resin already got under my old film. Now what?
Stop printing. Uncured resin under film will cure in place from the printer's own light and lift the polarizer when you eventually remove it. Pull the film, clean carefully with IPA on a cloth — never pour IPA onto the screen — then inspect for dead pixels with a screen test and re-film. If you're seeing dead rows or columns, the panel is already gone.
My screen already failed. Replace it, or buy a new printer?
Usually replace. A $130 to $160 panel on a printer that's otherwise healthy is a good trade. The swap involves a ribbon cable connection and adhesive work, which is doable at home with patience — or something we handle regularly.
The bottom line
Saturn 4 and Saturn 4 Ultra (12K): buy the Mach5ive ZeroBubble. The bezel seal is what separates a protector from a piece of tape.
Saturn 4 Ultra 16K: buy a 95%-plus transmittance PET multi-pack that explicitly lists 16K compatibility, measure before ordering, and check the edges every few prints.
Either way, you're spending $15 to $30 against a $130-plus panel carrying a three-month warranty that excludes the exact failure mode you're protecting against. That math isn't close.
