Help Over Video: 3D Printing Support by FaceTime, Zoom, or In Person
Most 3D printing problems get solved in about twenty minutes once someone who's seen the issue before is looking at your printer. Now that someone can be looking through your phone. We do live video support by FaceTime or Zoom for makers anywhere — and in-person tech visits for everyone here in San Diego.
For years our repair help has been hands-on and local: free email troubleshooting first, then a mobile visit if the machine needed one. That works great if you're in San Diego. It does nothing for the maker in Tucson or Toronto staring at a failed first layer at 11 p.m.
So we're formalizing what we've informally done for a while: live video support. Point your phone at the printer, share your slicer screen, and we walk you through the fix in real time — the same diagnosis we'd do in person, minus the drive. It's the fastest way to get unstuck no matter where you are, and for a lot of problems it's all you'll ever need.
Two ways to get help, by where you are
In-person tech visits
We come to your home, office, classroom, or workshop with tools and parts. Hands-on diagnosis and repair, on the machine, in one visit — the full mobile service we're known for locally.
Virtual help appointments
A scheduled live session over FaceTime or Zoom. You show us the problem, we guide you through the fix and dial in your settings together — wherever you are in the country or the world.
San Diego locals can use either — book a visit when the printer needs hands on it, or grab a quick video session when you just need a second set of expert eyes. Everyone outside the county gets the same expertise over video.
From free advice to hands-on repair
Think of it as a ladder. Start at the top; most people never need the bottom rung.
Email troubleshooting. Describe the problem with a photo or two and we'll often point you straight to the fix — no cost, no commitment. Always free, anywhere.
Live FaceTime or Zoom session. A booked appointment where we diagnose and fix it with you in real time. Flat per-session fee, quoted when you book. Available anywhere.
On-site tech visit. We show up with tools and parts and handle the repair on the machine. San Diego County only; quoted before any paid work.
If a quick email reply solves your problem, we'll just tell you — we won't push you into a paid session you don't need. And if a video call reveals a fault that truly needs hands-on work, we'll say that too, and (for San Diego) book the visit or help you weigh shipping options.
What live video help is great for
A huge share of printing problems are settings, technique, or a small mechanical issue you can fix yourself with guidance. Those are perfect over video.
Failed & ugly prints
First-layer adhesion, stringing, warping, layer shifts, under-extrusion. We watch a print start and read the symptoms live.
Slicer & settings
Share your screen and we tune layer height, temps, supports, and speeds together — and explain why, so it sticks.
Calibration
Bed leveling, flow and pressure-advance, first-layer Z, and the calibration order that actually matters.
Firmware & setup
New-printer setup and firmware updates walked through step by step so nothing gets bricked. See our firmware guide.
Feed & AMS issues
Jams, clogs, grinding, and multi-material feed problems — many fixable in minutes. See our Bambu AMS fix guide.
Resin troubleshooting
Exposure, supports, and batch-print failures. Pairs with our resin support settings and multi-print fixes.
Design & CAD tutoring
Stuck modeling a part or fighting supports? We tutor over video too — like our design-your-own-supports workflow.
"Should I even buy this?"
Honest buying and upgrade advice before you spend — including the occasional "you don't need that."
How a virtual session works
Book a slot, hop on FaceTime or Zoom at your time, and show us what's happening. To get the most out of it, have a few things ready:
Quick prep checklist
- Your printer powered on and reachable, with a little clear space around it
- A way to point a camera at the machine and free up your hands — a phone stand, or a friend to hold the phone
- The computer with your slicer open, so you can screen-share settings
- Your printer model, filament/resin type, and a photo of the failed print if you have one
- Basic tools nearby (the kit that came with the printer) in case we fix it on the spot
Then we work the problem together: you describe it, we diagnose, and you make the adjustments while we guide each step. You come away with the fix and the understanding of what went wrong — which is the part that keeps it from happening again.
What video help can't do
Straight talk, because it matters: a video session is our eyes and expertise, but your hands. We can guide you through replacing a nozzle or reseating a cable, but we can't physically do it through the screen. If a repair needs specialized tools, a part you don't have, or work you're not comfortable doing yourself, the honest answer is an in-person visit (San Diego County) or shipping the machine to a service that can take it in.
And a safety note we'll repeat on every call: a printing nozzle and bed run hot, and resin is a skin and respiratory irritant. We'll never ask you to grab something hot or handle resin without proper protection. When a step has any risk, we slow down and walk it carefully — or we stop and route you to hands-on help.
Common questions
Do you help people outside San Diego?
Yes — that's exactly what the virtual appointments are for. In-person tech visits are limited to San Diego County, but live video help over FaceTime or Zoom is available anywhere. If you're outside the county, a video session is your direct line to the same expertise without shipping anything.
FaceTime or Zoom — which do you use?
Either, whatever's easiest for you. FaceTime is simple on an iPhone or iPad; Zoom works on any device and makes screen-sharing your slicer especially easy. Tell us your preference when you book and we'll send the details. A phone camera is honestly the best tool here — it goes right up to the print.
How much does a video session cost?
Live video sessions are a paid appointment at a flat per-session rate, quoted to you when you book so there are no surprises. Basic email troubleshooting stays free. For current session rates, just call or text us at 858-342-6984 — we'll also tell you honestly if your issue is likely a quick free-email fix instead.
What do I need for a virtual appointment?
A phone or computer with FaceTime or Zoom, your printer powered on, and ideally a way to prop the camera so your hands are free. Have your slicer open for screen-sharing, know your printer and material, and keep the basic tool kit nearby. The prep checklist above covers it.
Can a video call really fix my printer?
For most problems, yes. The majority of printing issues are settings, technique, calibration, or a small mechanical fix you can do with guidance — all ideal over video. Hardware faults that need our tools and hands are the exception; for those we'll recommend an in-person visit if you're in San Diego, or point you to the right hands-on option if you're not.

Differentiation angle: First post formalizing remote/live video support as a paid tier and drawing the geographic line — San Diego County gets in-person tech visits; everyone else gets virtual FaceTime/Zoom appointments. Framed as a three-rung ladder (free email → paid video → in-person) so it extends, rather than contradicts, the existing "mobile on-site repair only" positioning.
Cannibalization audit: site:dreaming3d.net remote / virtual / video / FaceTime / Zoom support — no existing post owns remote video help. The repair-request page references free email troubleshooting + in-person visits but not a live-video tier or the SD-vs-elsewhere split; this post owns that query.
Cross-links (all confirmed live in audit): firmware update guide; Bambu AMS fix; resin support settings; Saturn 4 Ultra multi-print fix; design-your-own-supports (remote tutoring); /pages/repair-request. No speculative slugs.
Pricing handled carefully: no specific dollar figure invented (none on record). Session framed as a flat per-session fee "quoted when you book," with free email troubleshooting preserved and readers directed to call/text for current rates — consistent with the shop's quote-before-paid-work ethos. Action: insert the actual session rate here once set, and consider a dedicated /pages/virtual-help booking page to point the CTA at.
Honesty/safety: explicit limits section (video = our eyes, your hands; some faults need in-person or shipping) and a hot-nozzle/resin safety note. Avoids over-promising remote repair.
Consistency flag: homepage currently says "Mobile on-site repair only" — once this offering is live, update that line to mention virtual help so the two don't conflict.
